It is our belief that Education and Training provide primary prevention for child abuse, trauma, and mental health struggles in Louisiana communities.

VIA LINK/PCAL trainings are approved for social work continuing education units (CEUs) and NBCC Credit Hours

AVAILABLE TRAINING

Suicide Education & Response

(1, 2, 3, and 4 hour options)

  • An educational training that will review current statistics on suicide, debunk suicide myths, build understanding suicide ideation in the brain, review risk factors, and build skills on how to ask about suicide and conversationally assess risk 
  • Trainings specific for youth and adolescent suicide risk is available
  • Training to meet Act 219 and Act 93 requirements for school staff is available 

Crisis Intervention/De-escalation

(1 and 2 hour options)

  • An educational training that will review crisis theory, build understanding of the crisis state of brain, educate on the sympathetic vs. parasympathetic nervous system, build verbal skills to be utilized for de-escalation, and review basic do’s and don’t’s

Working with Past Trauma

(1 and 1.5 hour options)

  • An educational training that will review and define “trauma”, build understanding of trauma effects on the brain, define skills for supporting individuals who have experienced trauma, and build understanding of how trauma may present itself

Understanding Grief

(.5 and 1 hour option)

  • An educational training that will build understanding on what grief is and how it can present itself as well as give skills for responding and supporting someone experiencing grief.

Traumatic Grief

(1 hour)

  • An educational training that will define grief and trauma, and how traumatic grief may differ in presentation and effects; as well as build skills on responding to an individual experiencing traumatic grief. **There is an option to include a Grief Movement Demonstration into any trauma/grief presentation**

Self Harm

(.5 hour option)

  • An educational training which will define self harm and build understanding to how you can respond to self harm.

The Importance of Self Care

(.5 and 1 hour options)

  • An educational training that will explain the process of how “burn out” can build up, how to recognize the signs of burn out, and how utilizing self care combats burn out.

Psychological First Aid for Schools

  • An evidence-informed modular approach to help children, adolescents, adults, and families in the immediate aftermath of disaster and terrorism. Individuals affected by a disaster or traumatic incident, whether survivors, witnesses, or responders to such events, may struggle with or face new challenges following the event. PFA was developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for PTSD, with contributions from individuals involved in disaster research and response.

Skills for Psychological Recover

  • An evidence-informed modular intervention that aims to help survivors gain skills to manage distress and cope with post-disaster stress and adversity. Individuals affected by a disaster or traumatic incident, whether survivors, witnesses, or responders to such events, may struggle with or face new challenges following the event. SPR was developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for PTSD, with contributions from individuals involved in disaster research and response.

Target YOUTH peer support

  • A 10 week program designed to help young people, who are peers, develop life-adapting goals. TARGET Health will expand on issues youth are facing today. Healthy Relationships, Social Media, Recognizing and Managing Anxiety and Suicide Awareness are a few of the 10 Units covered in the free workbook and course.

Stewards of Children’s Darkness to Light Training

  • A 2 hour training focused on preventing child sexual abuse.
  • The mission of Darkness to Light’s evidence based training, Stewards of Children, is to empower adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse through awareness, education, and stigma reduction.

ACEs Training

  • A training on Adverse Childhood Experiences and the lasting effects of trauma on children.
  •  We will learn about the ACEs Study and what the assessment given to participants in the study looked like. Finally, we will touch on why some people with high ACEs score seem to be resilient even through adversity.

From Mandated Reporter to Mandated Supporter

  • Keeping Families Connected – a training on mandated reporting, and how to utilize skills to keep families connected to your care in the instances where a report to DCFS is necessary.

Bullying Awareness

  • A presentation for faculty who work with youth and adolescents on understanding the roots of “bullying” and how to respond when bullying is occurring in your community.

Creating Self Regulating Classrooms

  • Creating an environment for students to be able to self regulate requires both a proactive classroom environment and staff equipped with reactive skills. This training will offer information on both skills and how to implement in your school or classroom.
